KOLKATA, April 11: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday alleged that the BJP tried to get her candidature from Bhabanipur cancelled by filing false cases against her, but the attempt was foiled by TMC workers and the public.
Addressing rallies in Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram and Bankura, she accused the BJP of deleting around 90 lakh voters’ names during the SIR exercise and manipulating electoral rolls with the help of the Election Commission.
Banerjee alleged that the BJP is attempting to win elections through “fraudulent means,” including tampering with EVMs and misusing institutions.
She also called the SIR exercise a “scam” and claimed that deaths occurred due to it, while saying that names of Hindus, Muslims and Missionaries of Charity members were removed from voter lists.
She strongly opposed the BJP’s proposed Uniform Civil Code, saying it would impose uniform religious practices and curb freedom of faith.
She also alleged black money usage in elections, voter intimidation, and transfer of officials, while urging party workers to remain vigilant.
Banerjee criticised the BJP on unemployment, claiming her government created more jobs, and accused the Centre of failing on recruitment and privatisation policies. She also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for visiting Bengal only during elections.
She defended her government’s development record and announced major infrastructure projects, while asserting that the TMC is fighting against BJP as well as central agencies like the ED, CBI and EC.

Shah slams Mamata’s victim card strategy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of playing the “victim card” for sympathy votes and claiming that her 15-year rule has pushed the state towards decline.
Addressing rallies in Bankura and Purulia districts, Shah said the BJP would end the TMC’s “syndicate raj” if voted to power and ensure justice for women facing atrocities.
He alleged that Bengal has suffered industrial decline, with thousands of industries leaving the state and youth forced to migrate for work.
Shah promised jobs within the state if the BJP comes to power, along with a monthly assistance of Rs 3,000 until employment is secured. He also vowed to restore Bengal’s “lost glory” and realise Rabindranath Tagore’s vision of “Sonar Bangla.”
Shah accused the TMC of widespread corruption, “cut money” practices, and allowing “goondas and infiltrators” to dominate governance.
He promised strict action against those involved in political violence and said infiltrators would be removed if BJP forms the government.
He further assured better support for farmers, improved ration delivery using biometric systems, and inclusion of languages like Kurmali and Rajbangshi in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule.
Shah also criticised the TMC on women’s safety, industrial stagnation, and governance failures, while pledging stronger development and security under BJP rule. (PTI)
