SHILLONG, April 13: Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suin on Monday expressed confidence that the long-standing demand to upgrade Mawsynram into a civil sub-division will soon be fulfilled.
Suin informed reporters that a committee headed by the Chief Secretary has already examined the proposal and granted in-principle approval. He clarified, however, that the final decision now rests with the State Cabinet.
Highlighting the importance of the upgrade, the MLA said civil sub-division status would enhance administrative efficiency and ensure better delivery of essential services.
He noted that residents currently face challenges due to administrative constraints, including delays in accessing government services and developmental schemes.
Suin added that he has urged Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to expedite the process and place the matter before the Cabinet at the earliest.
The Mawsynram MLA maintained that the creation of a civil sub-division would bring governance closer to the people while facilitating infrastructure development, improved law and order management, and enhanced public welfare initiatives.
