CM bats for digital monitoring and transparency in forest governance

SHILLONG, April 14: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday directed the Forest Department to strengthen digital monitoring and improve transparency while reviewing the department’s progress and future roadmap.
The meeting focused on building accountable governance mechanisms alongside conservation and livelihood initiatives. Discussions centered on expanding forest cover, restoring degraded landscapes, and promoting community-driven afforestation.
The Chief Minister also reviewed wildlife mapping efforts and explored ways to support eco-tourism and forest-based livelihoods. He highlighted the need to address infrastructure gaps, including better support for frontline staff and improved wildlife rescue systems.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on ongoing initiatives and steps being taken to enhance conservation outcomes and service delivery across the forest sector.
