ZEE5 has announced the release of its upcoming docuseries Lawrence of Punjab, which will premiere on April 27.
The series focuses on the making of criminal identities and uses gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as a central case study to explore how culture, systems, and media visibility contribute to the rise of such figures.
Produced by Riverland Entertainment and directed by Raghav Darr, the docuseries examines the intersection of aspiration, power, ideology, and perception, tracing influences from student politics and music to the creation of a “digital syndicate.”
According to the makers, the narrative goes beyond one individual to highlight broader social and cultural forces shaping modern crime and its public image.
Director Raghav Darr said the project is not just a crime story but an attempt to understand the “why” behind such identities, focusing on the environments and systems that influence them and the consequences they leave behind.
Producer Raghav Khanna added that the series approaches sensitive real-life events with balance and restraint, aiming to reflect multiple perspectives while exploring themes of power and influence in Punjab’s socio-cultural context.
The series also highlights how media amplification and societal factors contribute to the visibility and evolution of criminal networks. (ANI)
