MAWKYRWAT, April 20: The Nongjri Area Trade Welfare Association (NATWA) held a general meeting on Monday to address a month-long stand-off between two rival trucking unions that has paralyzed coke transportation in the Ranikor Civil Sub-Division.
The dispute between the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners & Drivers Association (MCTODA) and the South West Khasi Hills Truck Owners & Drivers Association (SWKHTODA) led to a strike that has halted operations at Nongjri-area factories, severely impacting local livelihoods.
NATWA president Mandilos Nongbri told reporters that the association has decided to implement a serial number system to end the deadlock. Under this arrangement, both associations must submit their vehicle registration numbers to NATWA to allow the resumption of coke transportation.
“We have requested both associations to reach an understanding so that members of both groups can benefit from the work,” Nongbri said.
He further warned that any violation of this new arrangement would result in the driver, vehicle owner, and the respective factory owner being held responsible for the breach.
