Junior & Youth National TT C’ships: TN, WB in semifinals
Dehradun, April 21: Top seeds Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, along with Assam and Maharashtra, booked their places in the semifinals of the boys’ team event at the UTT Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships here on Tuesday. Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Maharashtra notched identical 3-2 wins over PSPBA, Haryana, Gujarat and Delhi respectively. Tamil Nadu’s P.B. Abhinand delivered two crucial singles victories, while Priyanuj Bhattacharyya (Assam) and Punit Biswas (West Bengal) mirrored that effort for their sides. Maharashtra’s campaign against Delhi saw Kushal Chopda defeat Atherva Gupta to start in style. However, he lost the second singles to Arjav Gupta as both team were locked 2-2 before Neil Mulye defeated Atherva to seal the contest in Maharashtra’s favour. (PTI)
31-member Indian team to compete in Asian Beach Games in China
New Delhi, April 21: A 31-member Indian team will compete in the 6th Asian Beach Games to be held in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. The Games will have medal events across 15 disciplines, with a total of 62 gold up for grabs. India will compete in 3×3 basketball, beach kabaddi, sailing and beach wrestling. India had sent a big contingent of more than 200 in the last edition in Vietnam in 2016, and had won 24 medals (2 gold, 4 silver, 18 bronze). Organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) since 2008, the Asian Beach Games is a multi-sport event focused on beach and coastal disciplines. The Asian Beach Games were last held in 2016 in Da Nang, Vietnam. After that, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a prolonged delay, with the event now resuming after a decade. (PTI)
SAI, ICMR workshop to strengthen ethical sports science research
New Delhi, April 21: A one-day workshop on Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to strengthen ethical sports science research was conducted by the Sports Science Division of Sports Authority of India (SAI) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) here on Tuesday. The workshop brought together researchers, support staff, and key stakeholders involved in sports and clinical/sports science research to enhance their understanding of ethical and regulatory frameworks governing human studies. Scientific sessions led by experts from ICMR covered critical areas such as ICH-GCP (E6) principles, ICMR Ethical Guidelines, provisions of NDCTR 2019, roles and responsibilities of investigators and Institutional Ethics Committees (IECs), informed consent processes, and management of serious adverse events (SAEs). Highlighting the importance of Good Clinical Practice, Dr. Stuti Bhargava, Scientist-E, ICMR, said, “Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is an international ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting, recording, and reporting clinical trials involving human subjects. It ensures the protection of participants’ rights, safety, and well-being, while guaranteeing the credibility and integrity of trial data. Compliance with these standards is essential for regulatory submissions and adherence to globally accepted guidelines.” Emphasizing the significance of such capacity-building initiatives, Brig. (Dr) Bibhu Kalyan Nayak, Executive Director, Sports Science Division at SAI, stated, “As sports science research increasingly involves advanced interventions and athlete-centric studies, adherence to Good Clinical Practice is not merely a regulatory requirement but a moral responsibility.
