IRS officer’s daughter raped, strangled to death

New Delhi, April 22: A 22-year-old woman, daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was allegedly raped and murdered at her residence in southeast Delhi on Wednesday morning, police said. According to police, the woman was found murdered in a room of the house by her family members. Preliminary inquiry suggests the woman, who was preparing for the UPSC examination, was allegedly sexually assaulted before being strangled to death using a mobile phone charger cable, sources said. 3 die of suffocation while cleaning septic tank

Bhagalpur, April 22: Three labourers died of suffocation on Wednesday in Bhagalpur district of Bihar, where they inhaled poisonous gases while cleaning a septic tank, a police official said. The incident took place at Khairpur Kadwa, a village in Naugachia sub-division. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed grief over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh to the next of kin of each deceased. (PTI)

Half-burnt body of woman found

Gorakhpur (UP), April 22: A partially burnt corpse of an unidentified woman was found in a field near a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district on Wednesday morning, police said. The body was discovered by locals near a canal along the field on the outskirts of Semra Chandrauli village. After being alerted by locals, SHO Abhishek Singh reached the spot with a team and cordoned off the area. Preliminary investigation indicates that the woman may have been killed elsewhere, and her body was brought to the spot before being set on fire, the SHO said. (PTI)

Stray dog goes on biting spree at wedding venue

Badaun (UP), April 22: More than 60 people, including guests and family members, were injured after a stray dog went on a biting spree during a bride’s farewell at a banquet hall in Budaun, triggering panic and chaos, officials said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Monday at the Abhinandan banquet hall on Bilsi Road under the Bisauli police station limits, when the dog entered the premises and began attacking people indiscriminately. Eyewitnesses said the sudden attack led to a stampede-like situation, with women and children screaming and running for safety, some even falling and getting injured in the rush. The dog later moved onto the road and attacked passersby and shopkeepers before fleeing towards a nearby village, where it apparently bit cattle. (PTI)

Man kills animals for likes and views on social media

Ranchi, April 22: A youth in Jharkhand’s Khunti district allegedly hunted and killed wild animals, including protected species, and posted videos of the acts online to gain likes and views, in what is believed to be a chilling instance highlighting the dangerous lengths people may go to for social media popularity. The matter came to light after several such videos went viral on social media. Acting on a complaint by animal rights activists, the Forest Department registered a case and launched an investigation. (IANS)
