Sharad Pawar discharged from hospital
Mumbai, April 23: NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar was on Thursday discharged from a hospital here. The 85-year-old leader had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in the city on April 19. Sources close to the veteran politician said the hospitalisation was for a follow-up and check-up. His condition was fine and there was nothing to worry about, they added. (PTI)
Man beheads wife, roams with severed head
Korba (Chhattisgarh), April 23: A 58-year-old man allegedly beheaded his wife at a village in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district and then roamed around carrying the severed head, police said on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Bundeli village under the Rajgamar police outpost limits. The accused, Salik Ram Yadav, a watchman at a local poultry farm, allegedly attacked his 50-year-old wife with a sharp meat-cutting weapon following a dispute while under the influence of alcohol, a police official said. During questioning, the accused claimed that he committed the crime after frequent disputes with his wife, who allegedly suspected his character, he said. (PTI)
Live-in partners found dead
Noida (UP), April 23: A man and a woman, both in their 20s and living together in a rented accommodation in Greater Noida, were found dead under suspicious circumstances, police said on Thursday. Guddu Paswan alias Golu (27) was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the couple’s rented room, while the 24-year-old woman, Jyoti, was found lying on the floor. Both were natives of Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district. The couple were in a live-in relationship, officials said. “All aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated,” police said. (PTI)
Man dies of sunstroke in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram April 23: A 37-year-old man died of suspected sunstroke in Kannur as Kerala continued to reel under intense heat conditions that have prompted a formal heat wave warning in parts of the state. The deceased, Sanal Kumar, a native of Pallippoyil, collapsed while engaged in well-digging work on Wednesday afternoon and was later declared dead. The incident comes amid a sharp rise in temperatures across Kerala, with the IMD issuing a heat wave warning for Palakkad, Kollam, and Thrissur districts. (PTI)
MLA threatens to cut publisher’s tongue over book on Shivaji
Mumbai, April 23: A book publisher on Thursday said Sanjay Gaikwad, an MLA of the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, threatened him for ‘disrespecting’ Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, through a book published 38 years ago. Publisher Prashant Ambi said Gaikwad threatened to chop off his tongue and enter his house and assault him. An audio clip in which Gaikwad abuses Kolhapur-based publisher Prashant Ambi has gone viral on social media. Gaikwad told reporters that it was his voice in the clip. The book, Shivaji Kon Hota, written by late CPI leader and rationalist Govind Pansare was first published in 1988. (PTI)
