Aryan breaks through for maiden IGPL title in Congo

Lubumbashi, April 23: Aryan Roopa Anand had been striving for victory for so long that it was only a matter of time before he succeeded. That moment arrived at the IGPL Invitational Congo, held at the Par-73 Golf de Lubumbashi course in Africa. The 25-year-old from Mysore, aspiring to become a professional global golfer, finally reached the winner’s circle, overcoming some tense moments along the way. Aryan finished at 16-under after a final bogey, tying with Udayan Mane, who was aiming for consecutive wins. After two sudden-death holes that were shared, Aryan ultimately pulled ahead in the third and won the Trophy. Aryan, playing for RVR Delhi, scored an impressive 8-under 65 on a Par-73 course. His round featured a remarkable streak of five birdies starting from the 11th hole on the back nine, which put him at 16-under with three holes remaining. An additional birdie on the 17th brought him to 17-under, seeming to secure his lead. However, a bogey on the 18th hole resulted in a final score of 16-under. Another contender, Shaurya Binu (68) from Honer Gurugram, finished alongside Aryan at 15-under, finishing third. (IANS)

BCCI’s indoor cricket facility in Rangpo set for inauguration by PM

Rangpo (Sikkim), April 23: BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia on Thursday inspected the newly built indoor cricket academy at the Sikkim Cricket Ground in Mining, Rangpo, ahead of its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 28. The Rs 23-crore facility, developed within the premises of the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) ground, features modern amenities including net practice areas, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and other infrastructure aimed at raising cricket training standards in the region. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Sikkim on April 28. On that day, the indoor cricket facilities in Sikkim, which we started in 2022, will be completed and ready for inauguration. (IANS)

NRAI Natl Judges Course begins

New Delhi, April 23: The NRAI National Judges Course 2026, the second annual event under the NRAI Education Program, at the Goldfinch Hotel in Delhi NCR. This course, running until April 26th, will gather both aspiring and current technical officials from all over the country. The opening ceremony, on Wednesday, was attended by Pawankumar Singh, Secretary General of NRAI, and Rajiv Bhatia, Secretary of NRAI, who officially opened the course. Experts Dhiraj Singh and Arun Wareshi will lead the program, guiding participants through the technical and practical aspects of officiating in shooting sports. (IANS)

Leading junior track, field athletes to test their skills in national meet

Tumkur (Karnataka), April 23: The country’s emerging track and field talents will be put to the test when the three-day National Junior (U20) Athletics Federation competition gets underway at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here on Friday, with many eyes on a future in India colours. With an eye on next month’s Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, the competition is expected to be intense, especially after the Athletics Federation of India announced stringent qualification standards for the continental meet, raising the stakes for young athletes eager to prove their credentials on the national stage. Over 1000 athletes set to compete in National U20 Athletics Competition

Tumkur (Karnataka), April 23: Overall 1059 competitors, including 709 male track and field athletes, will be seen in action during the three-day National Junior (U20) Athletics Competition, starting Friday at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Tumkur, Karnataka. The competition will also act as a qualifying event for next month’s Asian U20 Athletics Championships to be held in Hong Kong. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has already announced the qualification standards for the Asian U20 meet. The three-day age group competition in Karnataka will see several promising junior athletes achieve their goal to wear the Indian jersey. (IANS)

UAE skipper fined 15 pc match fee for ICC Code of Conduct breach

New Delhi, April 23: United Arab Emirates (UAE) captain Muhammad Waseem has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Nepal. Waseem was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an International Match or any Player, Player Support Personnel, Match Official or team participating in any International Match, irrespective of when such criticism or inappropriate comment is made.” The charge stemmed from Waseem’s remarks at the post-match presentation ceremony, where he alleged that the umpiring was biased. On-field officials Buddhi Pradhan and Vinay Kumar, along with third umpire Durga Subedi and fourth umpire Sanjay Sigdel, reported the matter. (IANS)
