Swiss plane suffers engine problem, aborts takeoff at Delhi

New Delhi, April 26: A Zurich-bound Swiss International Air Lines’ plane carrying 245 people aborted takeoff at the Delhi airport early morning on Sunday due to an engine issue, following which a full emergency was declared and passengers were evacuated, with four of them suffering injuries, according to the airline. There were 232 passengers, including four infants, and 13 crew members onboard the A330-300 aircraft with registration HB-JHK that was to operate the flight LX147 when the incident took place around 1 am. Officials said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) would probe the incident. “Four passengers remain in the hospital… A cabin crew member sustained a sprained ankle. The other crew members are unharmed,” an airline spokesperson said in an updated statement and added that the one cabin crew member suffered a minor foot injury. Details about how the passengers suffered injuries could not be immediately ascertained. Shortly after 1 am local time on April 26, an issue occurred with one of the engines during the takeoff of flight LX147 in Delhi. “The crew aborted the takeoff and, after assessing the situation, decided as a precaution to evacuate the aircraft,” the spokesperson said. Man kills son over suspicion of illicit relation with mother

Prayagraj, April 26: A man was arrested here on Sunday for allegedly killing his 20-year-old son over the suspicion of him having an illicit relationship with his mother, police said. The accused, identified as Girish Chandra Jaiswal alias Pappu Jaiswal, was apprehended by the Kareli police following an investigation into the murder that took place in the ‘Chaat Wali Gali’ locality. Atarsuiya Assistant Commissioner of Police Nikita Srivastava said the incident occurred on Saturday when the accused allegedly struck his son, Priyanshu Jaiswal, on the head with a heavy object, leading to his death. “During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed that he suspected his son of having an illicit relationship with his own mother, which drove him to take this extreme step,” the ACP said. Gujarat local body polls end, turnout under 50 per cent in cities

Ahmedabad, April 26: Voting for local body polls across Gujarat on Sunday was largely peaceful, with urban areas recording a turnout of under 50 per cent, while voters in tribal areas braved scorching heat to vote in large numbers. According to the State Election Commission (SEC), municipal corporations saw a tepid 48.73 per cent turnout. While Tapi, Navsari and Morbi civic corporations topped the turnout tally at 65.68 per cent, 59.68 per cent and 58.75 per cent, respectively, Vadodara, Surat and Ahmedabad recorded 47.26, 52.83, and 45.59 per cent, figures on SEC website showed. Voting concluded at 6 pm, and the data shared by the SEC is provisional. It is likely to change with further updates. The elections were held across 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats, making it one of the largest electoral exercises in the state ahead of the assembly polls due later next year. Municipalities recorded an average turnout of 59.09 per cent. (PTI)
