Taylor Swift says fan theories can go ‘too far’

Taylor Swift has said that fans often overanalyse her lyrics and try to decode who her songs are about, sometimes taking theories to “extreme” levels. Speaking to The New York Times, she said parts of her fanbase engage in “detective work” to identify real-life inspirations behind her music, which she finds unavoidable. Swift said it becomes uncomfortable when people treat her songs like definitive proof of her personal life, comparing it to a “paternity test.” She emphasised that she is the one who writes the songs, not the subjects fans speculate about. She noted that while such interpretations are part of fame, she focuses on her own connection to her art. Swift added that she creates music for herself first and hopes listeners appreciate it over time, even if they don’t immediately understand it. (ANI)
