Ahmedabad, April 29: Gujarat Titans’ top order has faced some flak over not showing enough intent to attack like some of the other teams in IPL but assistant coach Parthiv Patel has dismissed any chances of a change in team’s philosophy.
Ahead of the return leg home game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Parthiv was reminded how GT despite an opening stand of 128 in less than 13 overs managed only 205 at Chinnaswamy Stadium and then lost the match with more than an over to spare.Opener Sai Sudharsan came under scanner for a 57-ball ton which is now considered slow if one looks at the pace at which some of the other opener like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya and Abhishek Sharma are batting.
“I don’t think we need to make any tactical changes as such. I think we are very comfortable the way we are playing, the way we are approaching the game. There is obviously a lot of talk about playing another brand of cricket. But I think we are playing the way we want to,” the former India stumper said on the eve of the game.
He was also asked about the apparent lack of firepower from the middle-order batters but Parthiv came to their defence.“So, obviously, you all can see that our top order has been playing maximum number of balls, almost like 15th, 16th over. And as far as preparation is concerned, I can definitely tell you that, you know, we make sure that they are well prepared. We have those facilities here where we can do our open nets and stuff like we had that session yesterday with our lower middle order or our middle order,” he said.
“So, we try and give them as much as possible. So, as I said, we are a team which we believe in what we have as far as any batter is concerned, whoever is playing. And we have full faith in them and we are making sure that they are ready for the important games and if the situation comes around, they should be able to deliver.” (PTI)
