GUWAHATI, May 1: A bomb disposal squad of the Indian Army on Thursday promptly neutralised an unexploded ordnance (World War-II vintage), which was recovered in a civilian area at Ledo, Lekhapani in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Official sources said the unexploded ordnance (UXO), measuring approximately 12 inches in length and six inches in diameter, posed a potential threat to life and property in the area.
“Responding promptly to the information, Red Shield Sappers of the Indian Army swiftly mobilised a bomb disposal team to the site. The team immediately secured the area, evacuated civilians from the vicinity and established a safe perimeter, ensuring strict adherence to all safety protocols,” an official statement said.
“The UXO was carefully handled and transported to a designated safe location away from civilian habitation. It was subsequently neutralised in a controlled manner, eliminating any risk without causing collateral damage,” the statement said.
“The operation was executed with a high degree of professionalism, precision and adherence to established procedures. The timely and coordinated response ensured complete safety of the local populace,” it said.
