Shillong, April 30: The rhythm of bouncing balls and echoing cheers is set to return to the courts of the city as the 2nd Dubakh Scholastic Basketball League 2026 gets underway on Friday at the Pearly Dew School Basketball Court in Jaiaw. Organised by Dubakh Sports Pvt Ltd, the tournament promises to bring together some of the most promising young basketball talents from across Meghalaya.
This inter-school league, now in its second edition, has steadily carved a niche for itself in the state’s sporting calendar. With participation from several leading schools, the competition is expected to showcase both skill and spirit, offering a vital platform for budding athletes to test themselves in a structured and competitive environment. The opening day will feature league matches in both the boys’ and girls’ categories, with proceedings set to begin early in the morning. It is expected to set the tone for what organisers believe will be an intense and closely fought tournament over the coming weeks.Beyond the action on court, the league carries a deeper purpose. It aims to strengthen grassroots basketball development in Meghalaya, nurturing young talent while encouraging a culture of sport among students. Founder and head coach of Dubakh Sports Pvt Ltd, Dulon Banjop Kharsati, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond mere competition, focusing instead on long-term growth and exposure for aspiring players.
The tournament has drawn support from multiple partners, including DREAM (Driving Result through Education and Mentorship) as the main partner. Vector X has come on board as the equipment partner through Soccer International Private Limited, while DB Fast Food and U Matter will contribute as food and mental wellness partners respectively, ensuring a holistic experience for participants.
Matches will be held across several days, primarily on Saturdays and state government holidays, allowing students to balance academics with sporting commitments. With a well-structured format and increasing participation, the league is poised to grow bigger this year, further cementing its status as one of Meghalaya’s key inter-school sporting events.
As the first whistle blows, all eyes will be on Jaiaw, where the next generation of basketball players will look to leave their mark—one game at a time.
