NEW DELHI, May 4: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to retain power in Puducherry as counting of votes for the 30-member Assembly continues on Monday. The alliance, led by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, has already surged past the majority mark of 16, currently leading in or winning 18 seats.
The All India NR Congress (AINRC) remains the dominant partner in the alliance, securing 12 seats so far. The NDA’s performance ensures a stable path to forming the next government before the current assembly’s term expires on June 15.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister and AINRC leader N. Rangasamy is on course to retain his Thattanchavady seat.
At the end of the final four rounds of counting, Rangasamy held an unassailable lead of 4,441 votes over his closest rival, E. Vinayakam of the TVK-backed Neyyam Makkal Kazhagam.
The veteran leader polled 10,024 votes against Vinayakam’s 5,583. (Agencies)
