New Delhi, May 6: The BJP on Wednesday called Congress leader Rahul Gandhi an “unfit leader” incapable of leading the INDIA bloc, and asserted that the opposition alliance is on the verge of disintegration due to his leadership.
BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra hit out at Gandhi for alleging “vote chori” in elections, saying that those who themselves are thieves consider others also thieves.
Patra’s remarks came in the wake of Gandhi’s post on X in which he alleged that out of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, roughly every sixth MP had won through “vote theft.” “It’s not hard to identify them — should we call them ‘infiltrators’ in BJP’s own language? And Haryana? There, the entire government is ‘infiltrator’,” he wrote on X.
“Seats are sometimes stolen through vote theft, sometimes entire governments. Their real fear is the truth. Because if fair elections were held, even today they couldn’t win 140 seats,” he further wrote.
Responding, Patra said the Congress leader insulted the mandate given by the people of Haryana to the BJP government. “Rahul Gandhi today posted that not only are votes being stolen and seats being stolen, but now the entire government has been stolen. Is this a government or one of your brother-in-law’s land parcels that can be stolen? A thief sees everyone else as a thief,” he said.
The BJP MP also objected to Gandhi allegedly referring to the Haryana government as a government of “infiltrators.” “The people have voted, and it is a BJP government. The MLAs are elected by the people, and the chief minister is chosen by the people. How is it right to call them infiltrators?” he asked.
Patra also alleged that the opposition alliance is facing an internal collapse and predicted that its breakup would happen within weeks and that Gandhi would be to blame.
“Rahul Gandhi, you are an unfit leader, and because of this, your entire party is deteriorating today and breaking apart. And today, from the BJP’s platform, I am making a prediction: Wait for just a few weeks, the ‘INDI’ alliance will be destroyed. We have information from sources that the ‘INDI’ alliance is going to break apart. There is no other way out. We are not saying this casually.
“And the blame for this will fall on Rahul Gandhi’s head. When that happens, he will probably be abroad, so it will not be a matter of concern for him,” he told reporters.
Patra alleged that Gandhi’s leadership has weakened not only the Congress but also the broader opposition alliance.
He also targeted Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, accusing them of coming together only after electoral defeats. “This is the height of frustration; look at all these INDI alliance leaders — Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee — they have all come together. When they have to unite to fight elections, they do not come together and keep contesting separately. But after losing, they have all united,” he said.
Escalating his attack, Patra accused Gandhi of being “disconnected” from electoral politics and alleged that he routinely travels abroad during elections. “Standing with Rohingyas and Bangladeshis on one hand, and calling an elected government infiltrators on the other — Rahul ji, listen carefully and understand this. When elections are underway, you go to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a holiday and spread propaganda at China’s behest,” he said. (PTI)
