Over 150 kids in Bihar fall ill after consuming mid-day meal

Saharsa, May 7: More than 150 children were taken ill after allegedly consuming food that was part of the mid-day meal in a school in Bihar’s Saharsa district, a senior official said on Thursday. The incident occurred at a middle school in Baluaha village of the district. The official said that 115 children were undergoing treatment at the Sadar Hospital, while around 50 students were admitted to Mahishi Public Health Centre. “According to doctors, the health condition of the children has improved, but they will be kept under observation for some time. There is no need to panic. Some kids are having mild fever,” Saharsa District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar told reporters. Meanwhile, family members of some children claimed that a snake was found in the container in which cooked pulses was stored at the school. Of the 545 students present in the school, 200 had already eaten their meals by the time the snake was spotted, and later complained of stomach ache and vomiting, they said. (PTI)

Over 92 lakh households use self-enumeration facility in first phase of Census

New Delhi, May 7: More than 92 lakh households across 23 states and Union Territories have used the Self-Enumeration (SE) facility during the first phase of the Census through the official portal so far, officials said on Thursday. The self-enumeration facility is a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Registrar General of India (RGI), allowing citizens to answer Census-related questions online during the first phase of the Census, they said. “About 92 lakh households have successfully completed Self-Enumeration across 23 states and UTs so far,” the RGI said. The Census, the eighth since Independence, is being conducted in two phases. The first stage is HLO, and the second stage is the population census. (PTI)
