TURA, May 10: To commemorate the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Tura Natya Samity organised a cultural evening, ‘Kabigurur Smarane’, on Saturday at the Natya Samity premises.
The function began with lamp illumination and garlanding of Kabiguru’s portrait by dignitaries and senior members. This was followed by a welcome dance by Tanistha Mazumdar, first prize winner of the Group-B Dance Competition.
General Secretary Alok Roy, in his welcome address, highlighted Tagore’s enduring relevance and Tura Natya Samity’s century-long bond with his literary and cultural ideals.
The cultural presentation was a rich blend of music and dance. Solo songs—Megher Kole Rod Hesheche by Pankhuri Saha, Tumi Je Shurer Agun by Adrija Bhattacharjee, Amra Sobai Raja by Ankit Sarkar, Pagla Hawar Badol Dine by Ranbir Paul and Maya Bono Biharini by Vernika Sengupta—echoed Gurudev’s profound lyricism.
The dance segment, meanwhile, featured prize-winning performances by Archi Saha, Thaneeska Hajong, Tanusiya Sengupta and Rakhi Kundu, interpreting Tagore’s songs through expressive choreography.
A key highlight was the prize distribution for the Art & Dance Competition conducted by the Samity. EC member of TNS Pintu Mitra felicitated the young achievers, inspiring them to pursue art with dedication.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
The event was well attended by members, patrons and lovers of Tagore’s works, making it a fitting tribute to the Kabiguru in the centenary year of Tura Natya Samity.
