NONGPOH, May 11: Five people had a narrow escape on Sunday afternoon after their vehicle plunged into a roadside stream at 17th Mile along the Shillong-Guwahati National Highway 6.
Police reached the site at approximately 4:05 pm following reports of the accident. According to officials, the Tata Tiago (AS01FF8936) skidded off the road, crashed through boundary posts, and overturned into a stream below road level.
A preliminary inquiry suggests the accident was caused by overspeeding, which led the driver to lose control while negotiating a sharp curve. The occupants, all residents of Guwahati, were identified as Nawar Ahmed Choudhury (driver), Tauhed Laskar, Goma Pun, Nikita Pradhan, and Sneha Tamang. They were travelling towards Guwahati when the mishap occurred.
No injuries were reported, and the damaged vehicle was later recovered from the stream.
