SHILLONG, May 11: The Shillong Civil Hospital, which is old, narrow, and severely congested, will soon be expanded to provide better facilities and accommodate more patients.
Informing this on Monday, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said the Red Cross has agreed to provide its land for the expansion of the hospital.
“We have already prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and the tender will be floated soon,” he said. He added that the Red Cross will be accommodated within the new premises, while the Shillong Civil Hospital will undergo significant expansion.
The Minister highlighted that the expansion is a much-needed step to ease the current pressure on the hospital’s infrastructure and improve healthcare services for the people of Shillong and surrounding areas. Once completed, the upgraded facility is expected to feature better patient wards, improved OPD services, and more modern medical infrastructure.
