Anti-drug seminar held at Shillong locality

SHILLONG, May 12: The Church of God (M&A), Nongthymmai (Pohkseh), organised a one-day seminar titled ‘Understanding Drug Abuse and Its Impact on Families and Society’ at Hill Crest Higher Secondary School, Rynjah, on Saturday.
The programme was inaugurated by Francis G. Kharshiing, Mission Director of the state government’s DREAM project in the presence of the school principal, and was attended by leaders of the Dorbar Shnongs of Rynjah, Pohkseh and Lapalang, the Union of Nongthymmai Village Elders, students and church members.
According to a statement here, the programme comprised three sessions.
In the first, Dr. S Lyngwa, Senior Psychiatrist at MIMHANS, discussed the health consequences of drug abuse and methods of prevention.
The second session, on the other hand, featured a presentation by the DREAM mission on its initiatives to curb the spread of addiction and the need for residents, traditional institutions and religious bodies to work together with the government.
