Guwahati, May 15: The United Christian Forum of North East India (UCFNEI) on Friday appealed to all concerned authorities and stakeholders in the region to secure the safe and immediate release of all hostages amid rising tension in Manipur’s hill districts.
“In these trying times, the United Christian Forum of North East India approaches you with a heavy heart and folded hands, seeking your urgent intervention for the safe and immediate release of the hostages currently held in captivity. Our hearts grieve for the families who are living in anguish and uncertainty, waiting desperately for their loved ones to return home unharmed,” UCFNEI spokesperson, Allen Brooks said in a statement.
Notably, the initiatives taken by civil society organisations in Senapati, in coordination with the law enforcing agencies through the intervention from the United Naga Council (UNC), have led to the release of 28 hostages till the wee hours of Friday.
While there may be more hostages in Senapati, the whereabouts of the remaining six hostages are not known even as Naga civil society organisations have stated that efforts were on to release the remaining Naga hostages abducted earlier from Leilon Vaiphei village.
“The Northeast region has long been known for its spirit of unity in diversity. Let us not allow this unfortunate incident to fracture the bonds of brotherhood that have sustained us through many challenges. Dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect for human dignity must guide our actions in these critical hours,” Brooks stated.
“Furthermore, we call upon all churches, Christian associations, forums, and believers across the North East and beyond to unite in fervent prayer. We request special prayer services to be held in every church and Christian gathering for the safe and swift release of all hostages; comfort and strength for their families; wisdom and courage for those working towards resolution and lasting peace and harmony to return to our beloved region,” he stated.
