Guwahati, May 15: Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Assam Minister Rameswar Teli on Friday formally assumed charge of his newly allocated departments at Janata Bhawan and said he would work with dedication for the welfare and development of the people of the state. Minister Teli has been allocated the departments of Transformation and Development, Labour Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare in the Assam government.

Speaking to reporters after taking charge of his office, the Minister added that he began his new responsibility by offering prayers, describing it as part of the Hindu tradition of seeking blessings before starting important work. “Before beginning any new responsibility, we remember God and seek blessings.

Today, after visiting the office and taking charge, prayers were offered for a positive and successful beginning,” Minister Teli said. The Minister visited his office located on the D-block of Janata Bhawan and participated in a brief ceremonial prayer programme attended by officials and supporters.

He said that he was grateful to the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the party leadership for entrusting him with important responsibilities in the state Cabinet. He also added that he would prioritise public welfare and work towards effective implementation of government schemes in the departments under his charge.

The allocation of the Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare department to Minister Teli is being viewed as politically significant, considering the BJP-led government’s continued focus on welfare initiatives for tea garden workers and tea tribe communities across Assam. Tea tribes constitute a major voter base in several Upper Assam districts and have remained politically important in the state’s electoral landscape.

Officials said the departments under Minister Teli are expected to play a key role in the implementation of labour welfare schemes, social development programmes, and policy initiatives related to tea garden areas. The Transformation and Development department is also considered crucial for coordination and monitoring of government projects aimed at improving administrative efficiency and development outcomes.

The inclusion of Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare in Minister Teli’s portfolio signals the Assam government’s intention to strengthen outreach among tea garden communities ahead of future political challenges in the state. Meanwhile, Minister Teli assured that he would work in close coordination with officials and stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of benefits to people across Assam.
