London, May 17: Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick believes Luke Shaw has done enough to earn a place in England national football team’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with head coach Thomas Tuchel set to announce his selection.
Shaw has not featured for England since the final of the 2024 European Championship after enduring an injury-plagued period last season. However, the Manchester United defender has enjoyed a much more consistent campaign this term and has started every Premier League match for the club. The left-back recently marked his 37th appearance of the season with his first goal for Manchester United in more than three years, scoring in a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest. Carrick praised Shaw’s consistency, experience and overall qualities, insisting the defender deserves serious consideration for England’s squad for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.Carrick said Shaw’s ability to remain available throughout the season was particularly impressive given the demanding football calendar and the physical challenges players face. He added that the defender’s experience and understanding of his body would be valuable going forward, especially after spending many years at Manchester United and overcoming difficult periods during his career.
