SHILLONG, May 17: A World Bank delegation visited Sohra on Saturday to review the progress of key healthcare and adolescent welfare initiatives under the Meghalaya Health Project and the Meghalaya Multisectoral Project for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment and Resilience (MPOWER).
The team visited the Sohra Community Health Centre (CHC) to assess its transition into a First Referral Unit (FRU). This upgrade is part of a Service Delivery Redesign initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare.
Officials noted that the CHC has also implemented state-supported Outcome Based Budgeting to improve health service delivery and outcomes.
The review continued at the Pomlum Primary Health Centre (PHC) and the Mawkdok Sub-Centre, where the delegation inspected infrastructure and healthcare planning intended to ensure essential services remain accessible in rural areas.
Focusing on youth welfare under the MPOWER initiative, the team visited Cherra Presbyterian School to observe adolescent wellbeing sessions centered on awareness and resilience building. The delegation also inspected the CMYC at Madanlyngki, which serves as a community hub for adolescent engagement and empowerment.
