SHILLONG, May 18: Amid efforts to prevent panic buying and maintain public confidence over fuel supplies in Meghalaya, public sector oil companies have assured consumers that the availability of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas across the state remains normal and uninterrupted.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Indian Oil Corporation’s State-Level Coordinator for Oil Industry, Meghalaya-cum-Manager (LPG-Sales), Shillong Area, said the supply position of essential petroleum products, including high-speed diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), continues to remain stable and adequate across all distribution channels operated by the public sector oil marketing companies.
The assurance covers supplies managed by the Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum across Meghalaya.
According to the oil industry, the entire fuel supply chain—from terminals and depots to transportation and retail outlets—is functioning efficiently without disruption. Authorities said fuel stocks are being continuously monitored while replenishment activities are progressing smoothly across different parts of the state to avoid shortages.
The statement also stressed that LPG supply to domestic consumers remains normal and is being prioritised to ensure uninterrupted delivery throughout Meghalaya. Officials said the situation is being closely monitored on a regular basis to maintain smooth distribution of cooking gas to households.
The oil companies further stated that they are maintaining close coordination on logistics, stock movement, and retail operations to ensure seamless fuel availability across the region.
Reassuring citizens, the oil industry said there is no cause for concern and appealed to the public not to resort to panic buying or unnecessary stockpiling of fuel and LPG cylinders.
Consumers were also advised to rely only on official communications issued by oil marketing companies for accurate and verified information regarding fuel availability and distribution in the state.
