SHILLONG, May 18: The state government has postponed the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), originally scheduled for May 29, following concerns raised by teachers engaged in the ongoing census and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises.
Announcing the decision at a public programme in North Garo Hills on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said a delegation of teachers had apprised him of the difficulties they were facing in preparing for the examination while balancing classroom responsibilities and mandatory national assignments.
Stating that many teachers were under pressure due to multiple concurrent duties, Sangma said the government had decided to postpone the MTET examination and would announce a fresh date after assessing the overall situation.
He assured teachers that adequate preparation time would be provided before the examination is rescheduled.
