SHILLONG, May 18: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday petitioned the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, alleging a violation of the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy in the recruitment for government-sanctioned posts at Women’s College Shillong.
HYC education secretary Enlang Sawian told reporters that data obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed significant disparities in staff appointments. The HYC claims that out of 22 sanctioned teaching and non-teaching posts, only three persons from the Khasi-Jaintia community have been appointed, while the rest were filled by other communities.
Sawian stated that as an aided institution receiving government-sanctioned posts, the college is required to follow state reservation norms intended to safeguard the interests of indigenous tribal communities. He alleged that these recruitment guidelines have been bypassed over several years.
The HYC has urged the Director of Higher and Technical Education to conduct an immediate inquiry and ensure all aided educational institutions in the state strictly comply with the reservation policy.
