SHILLONG, May 18: The body of 27-year-old Trophimos Khongmawloh was exhumed and a spot post-mortem conducted on Monday evening, 40 days after his burial. The procedure at Pynter village is part of an ongoing investigation into his alleged assault and suspicious death.
The exercise, supervised by an Assistant Commissioner of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, was delayed from its 10 am start due to heavy rainfall. Under tight security, a forensic team from Shillong performed the examination in the presence of a magistrate, the Investigating Officer, and a close relative of the deceased.
“Everything went smoothly and the entire process was completed without any issue. We are now awaiting the report,” an official stated.
The case gained public attention after a 59-second video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing the victim being assaulted inside the Pynter community hall on the night of April 7.
In a Zero FIR lodged at Sadar Police Station on May 5, the victim’s father, Netnobiweit Khongsdoh, alleged the assault was carried out under the supervision of the village Rangbah Shnong, Fullmoon Khongsdoh, and members of the Village Defence Party (VDP).
The complainant further alleged that while villagers initially claimed the death was caused by consuming poisonous insects, he found his son’s head soaked in blood when he saw the body. The FIR also claimed that VDP members brought the body to the family residence on April 8 and conducted the burial the following day without allowing family members to pay their final respects.
Copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police and the Pynursla Police Station. The investigation is currently under way.
