BEIJING, May 20: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held wide-ranging talks in Beijing on Wednesday covering bilateral relations and global issues, including Iran, the Ukraine war, and trade.
The meeting followed US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to China, during which he discussed similar topics with Xi.
Putin received a ceremonial welcome from Xi before formal talks at the Great Hall of the People.
China’s Foreign Ministry said the leaders exchanged views on cooperation and international issues of mutual concern.
This marks Putin’s 25th visit to China, reflecting close strategic ties.
Both leaders emphasised strengthening their partnership, with Putin calling ties “unprecedented” and highlighting rising trade exceeding USD 200 billion.
They also agreed to deepen coordination through platforms such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and BRICS.
The talks come amid rising West Asia tensions, including Iran-related developments and global energy concerns, with both countries maintaining close ties with Tehran. (AP)
