MAWKYRWAT, May 22: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has cancelled a work order previously issued to the South West Khasi Hills Basketball Association (SWKHBA) for the construction of a court at Laitlawsang, reportedly acting on the advice of local MDC Pynkhraw Kharjahrin.
A letter issued by the KHADC Chief Engineer, which has circulated on social media, informed the association that the work order dated January 15, 2025, stands revoked.
The document explicitly states that the decision was taken based on the advice of the Mawkyrwat legislator.
SWKHBA treasurer Pascal Snaitang confirmed the development, expressing frustration over the move.
He stated that since receiving the order last year, the association had repeatedly approached council officials and the Executive Member in charge to begin construction.
Snaitang alleged that authorities initially cited technical issues with the online portal and later provided various excuses to delay the project.
It may be mentioned that this is the second instance where a work order in the constituency has been cancelled following the intervention of the local MDC.
A similar decision was previously taken regarding the construction of a market complex at the Nativity Compound in Mawkyrwat.
