Phoenix, May 24: Iran’s football federation has confirmed that the national team’s base camp for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 has been shifted from the United States to Mexico following approval from FIFA.
Federation president Mehdi Taj said Iran will now train in Tijuana instead of Tucson, Arizona, citing logistical and security-related concerns.
Iran are scheduled to play their Group G matches against New Zealand and Belgium in Inglewood, California, before facing Egypt in Seattle.
Officials believe Tijuana’s proximity to Los Angeles will help the team during the tournament.
The federation also said the move could ease potential visa and travel issues, with the team expected to enter the U.S. through Mexico.
With the base camp issue now resolved, Team Melli will turn its full focus towards preparing for what promises to be another challenging World Cup campaign. (Agencies)
