SHILLONG, May 27: IIM Shillong launched the 8th batch of its Doctoral Programme for Working Professionals (PhDWP) and the 7th batch of the Post Graduate Programme for Working Executives (PGPWE) on May 26.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Director of IIM Calcutta, as the chief guest, alongside guests of honour Srikanth Srinivasan, Vice President at NASSCOM, and Dheeraj Gaur, CEO of Arete Capital Service Pvt. Ltd.
Prof. Naliniprava Tripathy, Director (I/C) of IIM Shillong, highlighted the institute’s commitment to academic excellence and ethical leadership.
She noted the institute’s growing global rankings and encouraged participants to focus on adaptability and continuous learning within the shifting business environment.
Chief guest Prof. Alok Kumar Rai spoke on the rising global reputation of Indian management institutes, stating that modern business education must be research-led and closely aligned with industry realities.
Srikanth Srinivasan remarked that leadership is now defined by enabling innovation and accountability rather than mere authority. He noted that India is well-positioned to lead through technological advancement and a strong talent pool. Meanwhile, Dheeraj Gaur urged participants to remain curious and solution-oriented throughout their professional lives.
The 2026 PhDWP batch comprises 20 participants from diverse backgrounds, while the PGPWE batch includes 87 professionals from sectors such as automobiles, consulting, manufacturing, and IT.
Prof. Mousumi Bhattacharya and Prof. Sitanshu Sekhar Das administered the oath to the new cohorts, marking the start of their academic session at the institute.
