Noted poet Bashir Badr passes away
Bhopal, May 28: Renowned Urdu poet Bashir Badr passed away in Bhopal on Thursday after a prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 91. The poet breathed his last at his home in Bhopal, a family member said. Born in Ayodhya on February 15, 1935, Badr taught Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University and was renowned for his mastery of the language, especially in ghazals. During the Shimla Agreement between India and Pakistan in 1972, Badr wrote the famous couplet “Dushmani jam kar karo lekin ye gunjaish rahe, jab kabhi hum dost ho jayein to sharminda na hon”. The lines were recited by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge during a debate in the Lok Sabha in 2018, to which Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded with another couplet from the poet: “Jee bahut chahta hai sach bolein, kya karein haunsla nahi hota”. Badr’s couplets are often quoted by people in their everyday life, whether it is “Kuch to majbooriyaan rahi hongi, yun hi koi bewafa nahi hota” or “Ujale apni yaadon ke hamare saath rehne do, na jaane kis gali me zindagi ki shaam ho jaye”. Veteran TMC MP heckled in own constituency
Kolkata, May 28: Veteran TMC MP, Saugata Roy, was heckled by members of the public within his own constituency on Thursday after he came out of a police station following the submission of a memorandum. On Thursday evening, Roy went to Nimta Police Station to submit a memorandum seeking action over the alleged assault on TMC workers in the area. As he was coming out of the police station, a group of people suddenly surrounded Roy and his associates. They started shouting slogans and also verbally abused the MP, calling him a “thief”. As Roy somehow tried to get out of the commotion and enter his vehicle, an egg was hurled by someone. However, the egg did not hit him and instead struck his vehicle. (IANS)
