Tura, June 2: The AHAM from Dadenggre in West Garo Hills has filed a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner alleging the unauthorized functioning of a Certificate Cell at Phulbari in violation the provisions under the Registration of Birth and Death Act, 1969 as well as existing state rules.

In the complaint, the organization claimed that the SDO Office in Dadenggre was facilitating the receipt and processing of applications for birth certificates by deputing personnel, despite the absence of any official notification or a sanctioned branch office in the area.

The local group quoted various sections of the Registration of Birth and Death Act, 1969 and the Meghalaya Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 1999 and pointed out that the functioning of the cell was illegal.

The local body also stated that the illegal functioning of the certificate cell was causing confusion, inconvenience and uncertainty among the public and urged that certificate cell operations at unauthorized locations be stopped immediately and that an appropriate disciplinary action be taken against any officials involved.
