DUBAI, June 3: An Indian national was killed and several others were injured in an attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, as tensions between Iran and the United States continued to escalate across the Gulf region.
The Embassy of India in Kuwait expressed its deepest condolences and said it was closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all possible assistance to the victim’s family and those injured. Kuwaiti officials said the Indian expatriate was among the casualties when Iranian drones struck Terminal 1 of the airport.
According to the Kuwait Army and Interior Ministry, the attack caused extensive damage to airport facilities, killed one traveller and injured several workers and passengers. Air traffic was suspended, and flights were diverted to nearby airports before limited operations resumed later in the day.
The Ministry of Health said 63 people were receiving treatment in seven hospitals, with seven patients undergoing major emergency surgeries. The injured included civilians, airport staff and travellers.
Kuwait later summoned Iran’s Charge d’Affaires and handed over a formal protest note. Two Iranian diplomats were declared persona non grata and ordered to leave within 24 hours. The death raises the number of Indian fatalities linked to the Iran-US conflict since February 28 to at least 10, with one Indian citizen still reported missing. (PTI)
