Kuala Lumpur, June 5: Bhutan’s Ritshi Choden entered the record books for an unfortunate reason after becoming the first woman cricketer to be dismissed timed out in an international match during the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in Malaysia.
The rare dismissal occurred during Bhutan’s chase against Nepal in Mantin. After opener Ngawang Choden was dismissed off the very first ball of the innings, Ritshi Choden, the incoming batter, failed to reach the crease within the stipulated time limit.
Under the Laws of Cricket, a new batter must be ready to face the next delivery within 90 seconds of a wicket falling in T20 Internationals. Choden took longer than the allotted time, prompting Nepal’s fielders to appeal. Umpires Sun Meng Yao and Ankita Guha upheld the appeal, declaring the batter out without facing a ball.
Television footage showed Choden jogging towards the wicket carrying her helmet and gloves before briefly speaking to the square-leg umpire. As she approached the crease, Nepal’s players appealed, and following discussions with the officials, the dismissal was confirmed. Choden accepted the decision and left the field without objection, leaving Bhutan reeling at 0 for 2 after just one delivery. (Agencies)
