India beat Pakistan in semi-final to enter U-18 Men’s Asia Cup final
Kakamigahara (Japan), June 5: The Indian hockey team showed incredible character to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan 5-3 in a high-voltage semi-final match of the U18 Men’s Asia Cup here on Friday. Trailing 2-3 until the final quarter, India produced an outstanding attacking display in the final minutes to secure their place in the summit clash. India found their rhythm in the 12th minute when a brilliant run from their own half forced a defensive error from Pakistan, earning India a penalty stroke. For India Ashish Tani Purti (12’, 49’, 53’ and 56’) and Shahrukh Ali (35’) found the back of the net, while Shahrukh Ali (35’), Muhammad Farhan Aslam (37’) and Uzair Ahmad Qureshi (42’) were the scorers. India will take on Japan in the final on Saturday. (PTI)
India girls lose to China in Asian Under-18 hockey semis
Kakamigahara, June 5: The Indian Under-18 women’s hockey team lost in penalty shootouts to China in the semifinals to be knocked out of gold medal contention in the Under-18 Asian Championships here on Friday. After an intense and well-fought 2-2 draw over four quarters, the Indians lost 1-3 in the shootout. Nousheen Naz (3rd minute) and Kiran Ekka (54th) scored the goals for India while Li ZeYan (24th) and Zhang Yuzheng (48th) sounded the board for China in the regulation time. The Indians will now compete for the bronze medal on Saturday. (PTI)
Indian wrestlers Manisha, Neha clinch gold in Mongolia
New Delhi, June 5: Manisha and Neha clinched gold medals in the women’s division to headline a successful day for Indian wrestlers, who secured four gold and two bronze across the Greco-Roman and women’s categories at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series in Mongolia. The Indian contingent has established a strong position in the overall medal tally with six medals secured so far. The Greco-Roman unit completed its campaign with two gold medals and one bronze. Sunil won the 87kg gold, defeating Azad Salidinov 4-1, while Nitesh claimed the 97kg title with a 13-9 victory over Nurassyl Amanaly. Sumit secured the 60kg bronze medal after defeating compatriot Sahil 5-0. In the women’s wrestling division, Manisha claimed the 57kg gold medal with a 3-1 victory over DPR Korea’s Sim Son. Neha secured the 59kg gold by beating DPR Korea’s Pyol Hong 5-3. Earlier, Neelam won the 50kg bronze medal with a 10-0 technical superiority victory over Kazakhstan’s Maral Tangirbergenova. Ahmedabad, June 5: Hosts India delivered a commanding performance in the inaugural World Yogasana Championships 2026, clinching five of the first six gold medals on offer to underline their dominance in the sport’s biggest-ever global showcase at the Eka Arena here on Friday. West Bengal’s Abhay Burman (Senior Male) and Ritu Mondal (Senior Female) set the tone for the hosts with gold medal-winning performances in the Traditional Yogasana category, sparking a remarkable run for the Indian contingent before an enthusiastic home crowd. Ritu Thakur captured gold in the Senior A Female category. Roshan Thapa added another gold medal to India’s tally by winning the Senior B Male category.
