Five killed in NW Pakistan in gunfire exchange

Peshawar, June 7: At least five people were killed and two injured in a deadly exchange of gunfire between rival groups over a land dispute in northwest Pakistan, police said Sunday. The incident occurred in Gul Kach area within the jurisdiction of Toi Khula police station in South Waziristan of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday. The victims belonged to the Suleman Khel tribe. The injured were provided initial medical treatment before being shifted to Wana for further care, police said. Police officials said legal proceedings have been initiated and assured that those responsible for the killings will be brought to justice. (PTI)

Pakistan security forces foil vehicle bomb attack

Peshawar, June 7: Security forces used a drone strike to destroy an explosive-laden vehicle in northwest Pakistan, police said Sunday. The explosive-laden vehicle was destroyed before reaching its intended destination, police said and claimed it was intended to be used in a suicide attack. The vehicle was hit in the Sarah Gharah area of the North Waziristan district of the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday. Details regarding casualties or the identities of suspected militants involved are not known. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region in northwest Pakistan has faced recurring unrest over the years, driven by militant violence, cross-border movement of fighters from Afghanistan and repeated military operations. Jill Biden returned Modi’s diamond gift due to high value

WASHINGTON, June 7: Former US First Lady Jill Biden has revealed in her memoir that she considered keeping a 7.5-carat synthetic diamond gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2023 state visit to Washington. Modi reportedly said the lab-grown diamond was worth $2,500, prompting Biden to consider buying it under US rules that allow officials to purchase certain gifts. However, the US Department of State later valued the diamond at $20,000, leading her to abandon the idea. Biden instead wore the diamond at official events and returned it to government custody after leaving the White House. (IANS)

Fake pizza order lures Indian man to death in US

NEW DELHI, June 7: Anshul Kuncha, a 28-year-old Indian from Telangana, was shot dead in Philadelphia while delivering a pizza after receiving what his family believes was a fake order. Working part-time as a delivery executive, Anshul was reportedly lured to a deserted location where an unidentified gunman opened fire before fleeing. Nothing was stolen, prompting his family to suspect the delivery was a trap. Anshul had been living in the US for nearly four years after completing his Master’s degree. The Consulate General of India in New York is assisting the family and coordinating with local authorities as investigations continue. (Agencies)
