SHILLONG, June 8: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday refused to comment on the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which launched a movement demanding reforms in the education sector, stating that it is too early to assess an outfit that is yet to establish its organisational base.
According to him, the strength of any party lies in its structure and constitutional framework, not in short-term public attention. Any political party requires organisation, base, and certain constitutional aspects, he added. “So, I think as and when the party builds itself up as an organisation, we will be in a position to comment,” Sangma said.
He pointed to the role of digital platforms in shaping perception, but underlined the difference between a movement and a full-fledged political party.
He acknowledged that there is a wave about the CJP but said that a political party is beyond a movement.
“A movement is just the beginning, so there is still a long way to go. We have to wait and watch how things shape up and how they end up,” Sangma said.
He stressed that longevity in politics depends on consistency rather than initial buzz, wile observing that running a political party is not simple as there will be a lot of challenges.
