TALLINN, June 9: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Nordic and Baltic leaders in Tallinn, Estonia, offering to share Ukraine’s drone technology and expertise to help counter Russian drone threats.
The discussions came after several Ukrainian drones, reportedly diverted by Russian electronic interference, entered Baltic airspace and caused incidents in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine could provide low-cost interceptor drones and send experts to help regional partners develop affordable air defence systems
Estonian President Alar Karis welcomed closer cooperation, noting the need for cheaper alternatives to using fighter jets against drones.
The summit also focused on Ukraine’s bid to join the European Union, with Zelenskyy urging member states to open accession negotiations this summer.
He announced a new drone cooperation and defence production agreement with Latvia.
Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging drone and missile attacks.
Ukrainian officials reported casualties in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, while Russia said a woman was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in Belgorod.
Zelenskyy also pushed for tougher sanctions on Russia, including measures targeting its shadow fleet and broader economic sectors. (AP)
