SHILLONG, June 13: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Saturday said India’s national unity is strengthened by its rich diversity of languages, traditions, cultures and ways of life, and urged the country’s youth to embrace mutual respect and understanding to build a stronger nation.
Rymbui was addressing the valedictory ceremony of the student delegation from Telangana at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, where he attended as the chief guest.
According to a statement here, the programme was organised under a collaborative initiative involving the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal and hosted by IIM Shillong.
The ceremony was attended by officials and faculty members from both institutions, including the nodal officers of IIM Shillong and NIT Warangal, along with the student delegates from Telangana who participated in the educational and cultural exchange programme.
Addressing the gathering, the education minister highlighted the importance of national integration, mutual respect and cultural exchange among the youths of India.
He noted that while India’s diversity is reflected in its many languages, traditions, cultures and ways of life, these differences only strengthen the nation’s unity.
He said the delegates had the opportunity to experience Meghalaya first-hand and understand its people, culture and traditions.
Emphasising that every region contributes to the nation’s collective identity, he said no force could divide the spirit of unity that binds Indians together.
Speaking on the values of humanity and citizenship, Rymbui stated that beyond all differences, the most important identity is that of being a human being.
He also encouraged the students to carry this spirit wherever they go and contribute positively to society, their communities and the nation.
He further observed that Indians living across the world continue to maintain a deep connection with their homeland and remain committed to contributing to the country’s progress.
Urging the delegates to become ambassadors of Meghalaya and the Northeast, he asked them to share their experiences and promote a better understanding of the region among their peers and communities.
Describing the participants as fortunate to have been part of such a unique educational exchange programme, the education minister said it had allowed them to engage with different cultures, learn from one another and build lasting friendships.
He also commended IIM Shillong, NIT Warangal, faculty members, organisers and support staff for creating an enriching and welcoming environment for the students.
Highlighting Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and traditions, he encouraged the delegates to cherish the lessons learned during their stay and continue fostering bonds of friendship and understanding across regions.
“Let us live as brothers and sisters. Let us learn from one another, respect one another, and carry a sense of duty towards humanity and society. Together, we can build a stronger and more united India,” the education minister said.
The programme concluded with the distribution of valedictory certificates by the education minister to all participating delegates in recognition of their successful completion of the exchange programme.
