Pak TT players told to cover their own expenses at Asian Games
Karachi, June 14: Pakistan’s top men’s and women’s table tennis players have been left shocked by the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation’s decision to ask them to arrange their own funds if they wish to participate in the Asian Games in Japan later this year. The players received the news when some of them approached PTTF officials during the ongoing two-day national trials in Lahore to enquire about their daily and travel allowances. “We have been told that we will not be paid anything for appearing in the trials. Secondly, the players selected for the Asian Games will have to arrange their own air tickets and foreign currency at the rate of USD 50 per day to cover expenses during the Games,” a player said. The player said that when the athletes protested, a senior PTTF official told them they should be grateful that the trials had been organised, as the federation had not received any funds or grants from the Pakistan Sports Board. Parul Chaudhary betters own record to finish second
New Delhi, June 14: India’s Parul Chaudhary bettered her own national record in the women’s 5000m event by clocking a new personal best time of 15:04.26 to finish second at the Meeting Nikaia 2026 in Nice, France. The Indian athlete finished the race behind Ethiopia’s Bereka Seniya Mohammed, who just about edged out Parul from the top spot with a meet record time of 15:03.85. Alessia Zarbo of France ended third with a season best 15:16.83. (PTI)
Australia edge Bangladesh in 3rd ODl to avoid sweep
Mirpur (Bangladesh), June 14: Opener Cooper Connoly hit his maiden century as Australia overcame a six-wicket haul by pacer Shoriful Islam for a hard-fought one-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the third cricket one-day international to avoid a clean sweep on Sunday. The hosts won the first match by 86 runs and the second game by five wickets, both on the DLS method, to register their first ODI series victory against Australia. (AP)
Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 37 runs to level the 3-match T20Is
Kingston (Jamaica), June 14: Sri Lanka levelled the three-match Twenty20 series with a 37-run win over the West Indies on Saturday. After being sent in to bat Sri Lanka made a competitive 194-6 on the back of half-centuries from Kamil Mishara and Dasun Shanaka before Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera took three wickets each to limit the hosts’ reply to 157 at Sabina Park. The West Indies reply stuttered from the start as it slumped to 9-2 in the early overs, before Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell combined for an 82-run stand to help recover the chase. But the match turned decisively toward Sri Lanka in the 10th over when both Hetmyer and Powell were dismissed. (AP)
