Actor Robert Downey Jr. has expressed confidence that Marvel’s upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday will live up to fan expectations despite the challenge of following blockbuster hits Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Downey, who famously portrayed Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will return to the franchise in a new role as the villain Doctor Doom when the film releases in December.
Speaking to entertainment outlet CBR alongside co-director Joe Russo, Downey said the film has been carefully structured and that its story and characters will satisfy audiences.
He noted that the creative team has worked extensively to ensure the movie avoids being viewed as a disappointment after Marvel’s biggest successes.
Marvel Studios has experienced mixed results since Endgame in 2019. While films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Deadpool & Wolverine performed strongly, several other releases failed to meet expectations.
Joe Russo described Doomsday as the most emotionally complex and mature film in the franchise, promising audiences several surprises.
Downey also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to the Marvel universe. The film features a star-studded cast including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, and Paul Rudd. (PTI)
