Shillong, June 20: As part of its efforts to promote fitness and sporting excellence among young athletes, the East Khasi Hills District Yogasana Sports Association, in association with the Meghalaya Yogasana Sports Association, organised a special Yogasana session at R.B.A. Higher Secondary School, Keating Road, Shillong, on Saturday.
The programme, supported by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, was conducted under the banner of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2026, combining the promotion of sports and wellness with awareness against substance abuse.A total of 74 boys and girls participated in the event, where they were introduced to various Yogasana techniques aimed at improving flexibility, strength, balance and mental concentration. The session also highlighted the growing importance of Yogasana as a competitive sport while emphasising its role in maintaining physical and mental fitness.
Organisers said the initiative was designed to encourage youngsters to adopt healthy lifestyles through sports and physical activity. They noted that regular practice of Yogasana not only enhances athletic performance but also helps build discipline, focus and self-confidence among participants.
