SHILLONG, June 22: Owing to the deteriorating condition of the existing Meghalaya House building in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, the Meghalaya government has decided to construct a new building.
GAD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, who inspected the building on Monday, confirmed that the condition of the building is bad. The government will have to hire a guest house starting next month to accommodate patients who come to CMC Vellore for treatment, the minister said.
The new building is likely to get more rooms than the existing building, which has 13 rooms. The GAD Minister said that the department will seek the assistance of the government in constructing the new Meghalaya House building.
Sohtun, during his visit, interacted with patients who expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the Meghalaya House. Patients and attendants are also provided free transportation between Meghalaya House and CMC Vellore. The number of patients travelling to Vellore for treatment from Meghalaya has witnessed a notable rise every year with 212 patient visits last year.
