SHILLONG, June 23: The state government on Tuesday convened a high-level review meeting with the Indian Army, NHIDCL, PWD, and district officials to tackle severe traffic congestion along the Rilbong–Anjalee–Barik Point corridor.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the meeting focused on practical solutions including road widening, junction improvements, traffic management measures, and long-term infrastructure plans to ease bottlenecks in the busy stretch.
Sangma emphasised both immediate short-term measures and sustainable long-term strategies to improve mobility, especially with Meghalaya set to host the National Games. He thanked the Indian Army and other stakeholders for their cooperation, stressing that coordinated efforts are key to resolving Shillong’s chronic traffic woes.
The review is part of the government’s broader push to enhance urban mobility and infrastructure in preparation for the Games.
