GUWAHATI, June 26: Assam Rifles, in coordination with the excise and narcotics department, conducted a joint operation in the general area of Tuikual North in Aizawl district of Mizoram on Wednesday and recovered heroin, with an estimated market value of Rs 47.25 lakh, from a residential house.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband, weighing approximately 63 grams, had been brought from Myanmar for further distribution in Aizawl, official sources informed on Friday.
The narcotics were recovered from multiple concealed locations inside the house.
Four persons, including three females, were apprehended during the operation.
The apprehended individuals along with the seized narcotics were taken in custody by the excise and narcotics department, Aizawl for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Lecture session
Assam Rifles organised a lecture session at Holy Cross School, Vengthar, Champhai to commemorate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday.
The event aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the threat of illicit trafficking, while encouraging students to adopt a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
Altogether 365 participants, including 15 teachers and 350 students, attended the session.
The lecture highlighted the harmful effects of drugs on physical and mental health, its adverse socio-economic impact, and the growing challenge of narcotics trafficking in border regions.
Students actively participated in interactive discussions.
