Jowai bodybuilder wins gold medals in Assam

Jowai, June 25: Meghalaya bodybuilder Mayalang Pakem continued his impressive run on the national stage by winning two gold medals at the Mr. & Ms. East India Natural 2026 bodybuilding championship held at Rangia Officer’s Colony Hall in Assam.
Pakem, a resident of Mynthong in Jowai and trained by coach Dr B. Desire Kynjin, topped the Bodybuilding Up to 60kg category at the Mr. & Ms. East India Natural Championship on June 20. He followed it up with another gold medal in the same weight category at the No-Drug Fit Classic 2026 National Pro-Qualifier Championship on June 21.
The competition attracted 897 participants from various parts of the country and is regarded as one of the major natural bodybuilding and fitness events in India.In recognition of his achievements, Pakem was also awarded a Pro Card by the Fit India Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation, earning professional athlete status and a place in India’s squad for upcoming international bodybuilding competitions.The Jowai athlete has enjoyed a successful season, having previously secured titles at national-level events, including the Mr. & Ms. India Natural Men’s Physique Championship and the Mr. & Ms. East India Zonal Bodybuilding and Model Championship held in Guwahati earlier this year.
Speaking after his latest success, Pakem urged the government to provide greater support to bodybuilding and fitness sports.
