Belfast, June 27: India-born fast bowler Jai Moondra described his international debut as a “dream come true” after playing a starring role in Ireland’s historic 34-run victory over world champions India in the opening T20I at Stormont.
The 29-year-old pacer, who was born in Tonk near Jaipur, made an immediate impact by dismissing Sanju Samson with the very first ball of his international career. He finished with impressive figures of 2/26 as Ireland registered their first-ever senior international victory over India.
“It was a big stage for me, for my family and my teammates. They were all rooting for me, so all I could do was stay calm and keep doing what has brought me here,” Moondra said after the match. Recalling the emotions of his debut, Moondra admitted that facing his country of birth made the occasion even more special.“I was excited, but I didn’t want to get overwhelmed. Taking a wicket with my first delivery was an incredible feeling, but we still had nine more wickets to take. Playing against India on the international stage is something special.
“It’s a dream come true and a moment I’ll cherish for the rest of my life,” he said. (Agencies)
